The POLIMI App Redesign
A complete study and redesign of the POLIMI App using various UX research methods
Group Project @ Politecnico di Milano
My Role: UX Research, UX/UI Designer
β
π Project Background
The POLIMI app is an App used by the students of Politecnico di Milano for their daily academic and admin needs on campus, such as checking the class schedule, booking new appointments with the university offices, exam registration, etc. The current app is demanding a new update bacause of the services provided is no longer meeting the needs of the students today.
β
π― Project Goal
The project goals is to:
1. Evaluate the current POLIMI app
2. Understand the existing problems and user painpointsImprove the user experience of the app
3. Propose and prototype new design that meets the insights from the research
β
π Our Process
The project was divided into two part. In the first part, we conducted research on the existing app using methods of the Heuristic Evaluation and the User Tests. While the second part, we were able to inplement the problems identified from the previous exercise and generate new design based on the given requirements.
In the first part, the process of acquiring insights is completed with two main parts: expert evaluation and user tests. Expert evaluation aims to identify critical problems of the software without user participation. The user tests followed, on the other hand, helps to validate and supplement the problems identified from the usersβ points of view.

The second part of the project follows the chroological order of cocnept ideation, concept validation, and development. Rather than a linear process, the development involves rounds of iterations as shown in the graph below.

π Design Direction
With all the data collection from the previous research activities, the project ended with a list of requirement for the redesign.

βοΈ The Redesign
The development followed the following order from the concept to Information Architecture, Wireframes, Mockup, and the Final Prototype. There are user testings introduced in each of the stage of the design to help us obtain direct feedback from the users and iterate our design to better meet the user needs.

-> Concept
The new POLIMI app is a campus application that offers costomizable and convenient access to needed information. The app aims to provide an optimal user experience for students through simplifying user workflows and improving the UI's intuitiveness.
